So many questions have crossed our mind regarding the readiness of India for 5G technology. But while we are caught up in that, 5G is growing at a faster pace than we know. In 2020, we witnessed the launch of the first 5G smartphones around the world, especially in the Chinese market. And there were a few in India as well. But none of them are comparable to the arrival of Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G in India.

Not only is this the first Reno phone with 5G in the country, it also carries the reputation of bringing MediaTek’s 5G technology to India with the inclusion of the Dimensity 1000+ processor in the phone. Like I mentioned in my previous blog that the Dimensity processors include MediaTek’s vast portfolio of 5G SoCs with premium-grade features, we’re all just waiting for the real-time performance results from tech reviewers to believe that a premium-grade phone with a fabulous spec sheet is only priced at INR 35,990.

Having said that, I think the Oppo Reno 5 Pro should also be appreciated for its camera enhancements. Oppo has always emphasised on making the camera as one of the key USPs, but this time it has nailed this department. In addition to the focus on camera, most of the enhancements can be seen apt to master videography.

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro is home to a quad-rear camera setup: a 64-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 2-megapixel macro lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Many might complain that it lacks a telephoto lens, but that is totally cool with me because the other elements do compensate for the need for one.

The front camera on the other hand features a 32-megapixel lens. Selfies are quite detailed with facial features not being as oversharpened and the skin tones also match up with real-life, which is a significant improvement.

The device supports AI Highlight Video for detailed and bright videos, dual-video mode to make videos using rear and front cameras simultaneously, AI Color Portraits to highlight certain colors in black/white outputs, AI scene enhancement, Night flare portrait, and more. Oppo also brags about its new Ultra Dark Mode which is said to “capture what is almost invisible to the naked eye”.

Hence, the optics department brings quite a solid ensemble to set an example. It’s probably a better pocket-sized replacement of a good DSLR camera, which will cost one way more. In addition, specs like 6.5-inch Full HD+ (2,400 x 1,080) display with 90Hz refresh rate, OLED 3D curved panel and 4,350mAh battery make sure that it maintains the balance in other departments as well.
